Matthew 6 :24 says no one can serve 2 masters?you cannot serve God and mammon.
People were lending money at exorbitant rates of interest. They were not bothered about the welfare of the people. Money was the priority, motive. They went to any extent to collect the money that was lent and its interest too.
To make a living by lending money is wrong, for that puts you in a position to serve mammon, the spirit behind greed for money. Even today we see money lenders using inhuman ways to collect the interest money. The government has intervened and curtailed many practices of lending money at excessive rates of interest that were prevalent in our society.
But it is perfectly acceptable in the sight of God to deposit your money in a bank. It is wise to use the interest you get out of it. God approves it. You need not entertain a sense of guilt and condemnation in this regard.
